The Offensive Book - Why Do People Find The Bible Offensive?

THE OFFENSIVE BOOK: WHY DO PEOPLE FIND THE BIBLE OFFENSIVE?

First, let’s define what we’re talking about.

1. The Bible is outlawed in 13 countries and severely persecuted in 39 others.
2. The Bible has been called racist, it’s been categorized as hate speech, It’s been
identified as homophobic, chauvinistic, and misogynistic.
3. The Bible has been removed from the public educational system of our own country.
4. The Ancient Romans censored and banned the Bible.
5. The Holy Roman Empire censored and banned the Bible.
6. The Roman Catholic Church censored and banned the Bible.
7. The Islamic State censored and banned the Bible.
8. The Communist State has censored and banned the Bible.
9. Present day Democratic Republics have censored and banned the Bible.
10. The Bible is the only book that if carried openly in public raises an eyebrow.
11. The Bible has been translated and retranslated hundreds and hundreds of times
allegedly in an effort to make it more harmonious and acceptable to people.
12. The Bible is categorized as being confusing, difficult to read, hard to understand, archaic, and irrelevant; yet it is the only book that will attract glances and draw notice when carried openly in any public place and it is the only book that could get you killed in
52 countries.

Why are the above facts so? Because the Bible is offensive to someone.
Secondly, What do we mean offensive?
Offend means “to displease, agitate, anger, or insult”
Offensive means someone or something “is agitating, annoying, displeasing, insulting, or angering.”

Next, realize that the contemporaries of Jesus Christ found Him and His words
offensive.
1. Matthew 13:54 (KJV) And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in
their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this
man this wisdom, and these mighty works?
Matthew 13:57 (KJV) And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A
prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and in his own house.
JESUS’ COUNTRYMEN AND FAMILY WERE OFFENDED BY WHAT HE TAUGHT.
2. Matthew 15:9 (KJV) But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the
commandments of men.
Matthew 15:12 (KJV) Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that
the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?
THE RELIGIOUS PHARISEES WERE OFFENDED BY WHAT HE SAID.
3. Romans 9:33 (KJV) As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumbling stone and rock
of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
1 Peter 2:8 (KJV) And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them
which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
DISOBEDIENT ISRAELITES WERE OFFENDED BY THE WORD. (Disobedient OT
Jews were appointed to stumble at the word of God and take offence by the Lord
Jesus Christ.)
4. MATTHEW 26:31-34 (KJV) Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended
because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of
the flock shall be scattered abroad. But after I am risen again, I will go before you into
Galilee. Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended
because of thee, yet will I never be offended. Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto
thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
THE DISCIPLES WERE OFFENDED BY WHAT WAS WRITTEN.
5. Galatians 5:11 (KJV) And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer
persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased.
FALSE TEACHERS WERE OFFENDED BY THE PREACHING OF THE CROSS.
6. Galatians 4:16, “Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the
truth?”
THE CHURCHES OF GALATIA WERE OFFENDED AT THE PREACHING AND
TEACHING OF PAUL.
1. Jesus’ countrymen and family were offended by His teaching.
2. The Religious Pharisees were offended by His words.
3. Disobedient Jews were offended by Jesus by the word.
4. The disciples were offended in Him.
5. Galatians were offended by the message of the cross.
6. Paul’s converts and listeners were offended by the truth.
The offences people took toward Christ or Paul stemmed from a rejection of what
they both taught. Their words.

WHY DO PEOPLE FIND THE BIBLE OFFENSIVE?
1. BECAUSE THE BIBLE EXPOSES MAN’S SIN OF DISOBEDIENCE.
John 7:14-17 (KJV) Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught. And the Jews marveled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned? Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

Man gets offended or finds the Bible offensive because man is fundamentally
DISOBEDIENT.
John 15:22 (KJV) If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now
they have no cloke for their sin.
2. HE BIBLE OVERTURNS MAN'S AUTHORITY.
II Timothy 3:16 (KJV) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable fordoctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
God says it. That settles it. If Academia, Religion, Psychology, Psychiatry, or Science profess something in contradiction to the Scripture, they’re wrong. The Bible is God’s word. It is the final and only infallible authority on earth.
John 17:14 (KJV) I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
John 14:10 (KJV) Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
1 Thessalonians 2:13 (KJV) For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because,when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of
men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
3. THE BIBLE WOUNDS MAN'S PRIDE.
Isaiah 64:6 (KJV) But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Psalm 39:5 (KJV) Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.
Romans 3:10-12 (KJV) As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
Ecclesiastes 7:20 (KJV) For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
Titus 3:5 (KJV) Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
4. THE BIBLE CONDEMNS MAN'S RELIGION.
Hebrews 10:11 (KJV) And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes  the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
1 Timothy 2:5 (KJV) For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
Matthew 23:9 (KJV) And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
Romans 10:1-4 (KJV) Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
Romans 3:28 (KJV) Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without thedeeds of the law.
5. THE BIBLE CONTRADICTS MAN'S PHILOSOPHIES.
Genesis 1:1 (KJV) In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Contradicts Materialism – In the beginning
Contradicts Naturalism, Atheism – God
Contradicts Evolution – Created
Contradicts Pantheism – God, heaven, and earth.
Contradicts Fatalism – God did something
Denies Polytheism – God…created
6. THE BIBLE NULLIFIES MAN'S EFFORTS.
Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
7. THE BIBLE DEMANDS MAN'S FAITH.
John 3:18 (KJV) He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
1. BECAUSE THE BIBLE EXPOSES MAN’S SIN OF DISOBEDIENCE.

How could the Bible offend mankind?

John 3:16 (KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:17 (KJV) For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
John 3:18 (KJV) He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
John 3:36 (KJV) He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
• God loves mankind.
• God provided for their salvation.
• God has done everything necessary to keep them from perishing.
• God wants to give them eternal life.
• God gave His only begotten Son for man’s salvation.
• God sent His Son to Save
• God didn’t send His Son to condemn the world.
• All that believe on Jesus Christ will be saved.
• All that believe on Jesus Christ will have everlasting life.
Romans 5:6 (KJV) For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
• Christ died for us when we were ungodly.
Romans 5:8 (KJV) But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
• Christ commended (demonstrated, displayed or extended) His love while we were yet sinners.
1 Timothy 1:15 (KJV) This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
1 Timothy 2:4 (KJV) Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
• Christ came into the world to save sinners.
• The Lord wants everyone to be saved.
2 Peter 3:9 (KJV) The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
• The Lord doesn’t want anyone to perish.
• The Lord wants everyone to repent.
How could anyone be offended at that?
