All of us face the same problem each and every day of our lives, the temptation to sin against God. All of us are reaping things now because of sin we have committed in our past. Not only is there reaping, but we are missing out on the blessings of God. How do we break this cycle? Is it possible to overcome the many daily temptations to sin? Join us as Pastor Steven Baer looks at this important topic with answers from the Bible.

HOW TO OVERCOME TEMPTATIONS
Many sermons and studies begin with these scriptures That we need to be reminded about some things
2Pe 1:12-15 (KJV) Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. 13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; 14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. 15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.

All of us face the same problem
Temptation to sin against God
Right with God Or Backslidden Each and every day of our lives
Our Sin causes us trouble
Ga 6:7 (KJV) Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a
man soweth, that shall he also reap.
All of us are reaping things now because of sin we committed in our past
not only is there the reaping But we are missing out on the blessing of God
Jer 5:25 (KJV) Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you.

Temptation:
I want to say from the beginning It is not a sin to be tempted
Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Jesus was tempted throughout his life Yet he never succumbed to the temptation and He never sinned
The human part of Jesus Christ was tempted Woman taken in adultery
Joh 8:6 (KJV) This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him.
Mt 4:1 (KJV) Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
There is a difference between Trials and Temptations
Even though they are sometimes called temptations There is a distinction
One temptation is to try you and the other is to get you to sin
Jas 1:2-3 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
Trial of faith Do you really believe God Or In God believe his word
1Pe 1:6-7 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: 7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
God wants to perfect you To refine you so that you can fulfill his will Ge 22:1 And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt
Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am. Jas 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for
God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: There is not contradiction in your King James Bible
Heb 11:17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
That was not a temptation to sin Rather
Trial of Obedience
Now let us look at the difference
In the Garden: God set up a trial of Faith (the Tree) Devil tempted to eat
Jas 1:13-16 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. 16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
The Devil takes whatever is already inside of you because of your fallen nature and tempts you to disobey God and his word
It not a sin to be tempted Sin begins in the will In your mind and your heart Before the act
This is part of the human condition We are born with a sin nature From Adam
We don’t lose it until we either die or get taken out in the rapture
I want to approach this subject of Temptation, using a verse that has been important to me over the years
Alittlehistory: ManyyearsagowhenIwasayoungmaninCollege
I met a group of young people ,Christians, who operated upon their feelings Told me because I felt better talking to them about God that I was saved
I mistakenly went on that assumption For years thinking that I was saved
I went to a Baptist church sometime after leaving college I would come under conviction But didn’t understand why “I was saved”
but I was not in my bible Just going to church
I was leaving for the Navy and the pastor was concerned for my well being He gave me counsel and gave me a vrs to memorize
I memorized the vrs because he wanted me to
I didn’t mean anything to me at the time And It didn’t do me any good until much later
1Co 10:13 (KJV) There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
1 Every Man is Tempted
1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man:
As I said, this is part of the Human condition
The Devil has permission to tempt you with your own lusts
We are all lured Kings and Paupers Rich and Poor Spiritual and Unspiritual
Adam and Eve were perfect and They were tempted to disobey God and his word
Yea hath God said?
Jesus Christ was tempted Are you any better than him?
Your temptations are no different than anyone else
The lie Nobody has ever been through what you have been through leads to either a pity party or exalted in pride I am somebody special
2 God is Faithful
Why did He say that? To assure us that we will not be alone in our fight against Temptation
How many times do we either think we are alone or do we try to take on the Devil on our own
You can trust the Lord He will never leave thee nor forsake thee Mal 3:6 (KJV) For I am the LORD, I change not;
1Th 5:23-24 (KJV) And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
The same God that is faithful to preserve you blameless unto his coming will be with you in your temptations
God is Faithful
3 God Knows Your Limitations
who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able;
God knows you better than you know yourself He knows what you can take and what you can’t
I use to work at a place called Western Block Rigging Pulleys hooks for cranes
They would test them for their capacity the piece itself
Bridge has a load limit
We want to put a load limit on God
then lower the weight limit on
Telling him how much we can handle
God knows what you can take There may be times when we are stretched to our limits And we can’t go
any further But with the Lord we can go much further
We really can avoid sinning He knows you withstand the temptation he will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able
God gave us Job to show how God protects us from the Devil going beyond our limits
God’s grace can get us through the trials of life but also get us through the temptations we face
4 There is a Way of Escape
but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Notice that God does not take the temptation away but will with the temptation
The ways to Escape Temptation
A Pray that ye enter not into temptation
Mt 6:13 (KJV) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Prepare yourself for the day Ask him not to allow the devil to tempt you today
B Avoid places of Temptation
Don’t put yourself into a position to sin
Pr 4:14-15 (KJV) Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. 15 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
C Flee
2Ti 2:22 (KJV) Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call
on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Joseph cornered by Potiphar’s wife and he ran
Pr 1:10-16 (KJV) My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. 11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: 12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: 13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: 14 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse: 15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: 16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.
