7 Prayers You Should Pray

PRAYERS YOU SHOULD PRAY 

Lk 18:1-8 

From time to time, I believe it is a good thing to be reminded about some of the basics of our faith. 

To be put in remembrance of the simple day to day parts of our faith. 

These seem to get lost, forgotten, or just let slip a bit in our day to day living. 

Some of the heathen and false religions put us to shame in some of these matters. 

Their devotion to their religious practices, to False gods gods of Stone, Wood, Plastic, Porcelain, Metal 

The vain repetitions Chants Mantras Flipping Beads Beating themselves 

Mt 6:7 (KJV) But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 

Yet we spend hardly any time talking to the True and living God
 I think it is good to re-access and re prioritize the basics of our faith Give them the proper attention they need to have in our lives. Prayer is one of those basics I want to talk about today. 

Lu 18:1 (KJV) And he spake a parable unto them to this end, (The reason for this parable is) that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; 

Not to give up Not to loose hope Not Despair Pray Pray Pray 

Pr 24:10 (KJV) If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small. 

I don’t know if you are like me, I hope not 

But I struggle to pray My flesh resists the notion of spending time in prayer 

I can find every excuse to not pray It is a struggle 

And if we don’t consciously bring this issue to the forefront, we will let it slip further and further back, Further from our focus in life and it will become less important to us. 

We need to spend time with the Lord, for our own well-being. 

Today I want to draw your attention to some prayers every Christian should pray at some point in their lives. 

1 The Prayer for Salvation 

Lk 18:9-14 Jesus gives a parable of 2 men Pharisee and Publican 

The Pharisee was self righteous 

Lu 18:11-12 (KJV) The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 

The Publican acknowledged he was a sinner 

Lu 18:13-14 (KJV) And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went  down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. 

God be merciful to me a sinner 

There needs to be a time in your life when you face God with the reality of your sin and where you deserve to go 

Pray God be merciful to me a sinner I don’t want to go to hell Forgive me for my sins Save my soul I trust Jesus Christ alone for my soul’s salvation 

The Pharisee was counting on his own goodness and comparing himself with others 

Instead of the righteousness of Jesus Christ
 Not born in a Christian home.... Go to church Or even read bible Salvation is only found in Jesus Christ Neither is there....

2 The Prayer for Daily Guidance 

Ps 5:1-8 (KJV) To the chief Musician upon Nehiloth, A Psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. 2 Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. 3 My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. 4 For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. 5 The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity. 6 Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man. 7 But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple. 8 Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.  

He who runs from God in the morning will scarcely find Him the rest of the day.

We hurry to start the day and leave off the most important part of the morning 

We face the day in our strength Without the help and guidance from the Lord 

All the issues we will face Decisions we will have to make without the Lord’s wisdom to guide us 

3 The Prayer for Deliverance 

Mt 26:41 (KJV) Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 

Something that could be prayed in the morning to start your day along with God’s guidance is to pray that ye enter not into temptation 

That God would give you spiritual eyes to see the temptation for what it is and avoid it from the beginning 

Before it has a chance to arrest your mind and heart 

The disciples were about to face a temptation and instead of praying for strength to resist it they fell asleep And did not pray 

and they ran away Some responded carnally to the temptation John not so much

4 The Prayer for Forgiveness

When we give in to the temptations we face on a daily basis 

We need to be restored to fellowship with the Lord 

Ps 51:1-7 (KJV) To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bath-sheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. 4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. 5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. 6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 

If we ignore them and don’t get things right with God 

Pr 28:13 (KJV) He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy. 

I can’t remember them all Or I don’t know if I have sinned today 

Ask the Lord to bring to your remembrance any sins you have committed Spend some time in silence 

As things come to mind take care of it. 

We have a tendency to be general and sweep everything under the rug and move on. 

But there may be some specific issues Sins you are doing that God wants to deal with you about 

5 The Prayer to Get God’s Attention 

Mr 10:46-48 (KJV) And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 

There are times when it seems as though you don’t have the Lord’s attention Like you have a busy signal from Heaven and God is busy with other things 

And you have an urgent need You need to get a hold of God 

Cry out to Him not caring others are trying to hush you up 

Cry out the more Be as the woman we read about at the beginning 

She pressed the Unjust judge until he was weary of her and finally listened to her case 

Regardless What God’s answer may be you want to know, at least, that God has heard your cry. 

6 The Prayer for Help 

Peter walking on the water took his eyes off of Jesus and began to sink 

Mt 14:30 (KJV) But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. 

I can almost guarantee that at some point in your life saved or lost You cried out for God to help O God God help me God save me

Da 6:20-22 (KJV) And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions? 21 Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever. 22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt. 

7 The Prayer of Deep Spiritual Desire 

Ps 139:23-24 (KJV) Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. 

There should come a time in your life when the Love of Christ constrains you Were you want more than just normal Christianity 

Php 3:10 (KJV) That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; 

And you know that there are still some things sins faults in you that are holding you back from that deeper relationship with the Lord 

and you lay yourself open to God Search me Reveal to me 

This is not just an emotional feeling But a yielding of Body Soul and Spirit 

A commitment to God That it would be said as it was of Enoch That he walked with God 

Lu 18:1 (KJV) And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; 

Isa 40:28-31 (KJV) Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. 29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. 

Let me give a warning there will come a time when prayers will not be heard 

Another Prayer Yet -  The Prayer of the Damned The Rich Man 

Lu 16:24 (KJV) And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 

He is praying to the wrong person but even if he had prayed to God to have mercy on him 

His prayer would not be heard
 The time to call out to God for mercy and salvation is before death Have you called out to God for mercy to save your soul from hell? You need to before it is eternally to late
