How To Have A Healthy Heart

Introduction

It probably won’t come as a surprise to anyone that Heart Disease is the number one killer of people in the United States every year. Each year over 600,000 Americans die of heart disease. It also probably doesn’t come as a surprise that many cases of heart disease can be prevented through lifestyle changes. What does that mean? That means quitting smoking, eating a healthier diet, exercising at least 30 minutes a day, five days a week, and maintaining a healthy weight. So what we have here is a serious problem and a prescription on how to fix the problem, if not entirely fix it then, certainly go a long way to mitigating the occurances of heart disease for a lot of people. So my question for you today is, how is your heart? Is it healthy?

I know what you’re thinking, “Hey, isn’t this supposed to be about topics from the Bible?”. Ok, glad you asked, today we are going to take a look at what the Bible says about the heart, but not just any heart, your heart, and my heart.

The Bible meaning of Heart –  The heart that you feel beating in the center of your chest is an important organ, some say perhaps the most important because without it pumping the life giving blood that flows through your body to every organ, your brain and all other organs will die. But the Bible speaks of something else too which God has identified as your heart. Take a look in Jeremiah 29:12:13 “Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. 13. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. What does that word “heart” here mean? Continue reading

That’s In the Bible!

Today I’m going to bring you a study that’s a bit different than our normal studies on this podcast. While we are always talking about things that are in the Bible, today we are going to focus on particular things in the Bible that a lot of folks would be surprised to find in the Bible. Most of these things are things they have heard of but do not know that those things had their origins in the Bible. After getting saved and then starting to read & study the Bible, I was amazed at the things I found in there. So first, I find these things to be very interesting… But then also I find that once you know these things you can use them to open up spiritual conversations with people. If someone uses a common expression, quotes a song, or a movie, etc. and you know that the quote is in the Bible, you can point it out to them and begin to sow the seed of the word of God. The Lord has given this world His word to communicate to man His thoughts and to reveal to man His nature. This Book, the Bible – is unlike any other.

Psalm 147:15 says of the Lord & His word, He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth his word runneth very swiftly.

God turned His word loose on this world. When He did – it took off running. I mean it went everywhere and it got into everything! Those frogs in Exodus, that got into all the Egyptians stuff… they had nothing on the word of God. It is everywhere. It has even found its way into our popular culture.

*It’s found its way into Book titles and Movie titles.
*It has been incorporated into popular music over and over through
the years.
*And it has made its way into our every day language.

The sports world regularly talks about David vs. Goliath matchups. And additionally Continue reading

Created To Spend Time With Him

  • –  (Genesis 3:1-10)
  • –  The Devil sure is good at what he does, there is no doubt about that. Here was Adam and Eve, they had an unbelievable relationship with God. God would come at least every day in the garden during the cool time of the day to fellowship with them. Adam and Eve had a close one on one relationship with the Lord in which they walked through the garden together. What a great life that must have been! To walk with the creator of the whole universe, to walk with your creator, in an increasingly perfect garden! But the Devil of course hates anyone spending time with the Lord, so he makes sure that he cuts of the communication lines!

1) We were created from the beginning to spend time with God:

  •  (Genesis 1:26-27) W e were created in the image of God
  • (Genesis 2:7) We have three parts to us just as God does
    • ●  (1st John 5:7) God is a trinity
    •  (1st Thessalonians 5:23) Man is a trinity
  • ●  Now I love my dog, we have a yellow lab at home. Dogs are called man’s best friend. And she is great, and she is very loyal. But you know I have spent some time with her while Jennifer was out for over a month about to have Jacob. So I was alone in my house with the dog. And don’t you know she never talked to me once? I mean I would say things to her but she would just cock her head a little and maybe put her paw up and shake my hand, but she did not fill the void of human conversation!
    • ●  And so when God created everything: The animals in the sea, the animals on the land, and the animals in the air, not one of those animals filled His desire to have fellowship. They were not created with a soul so they were unable to fellowship with God in the way He desired.
    • ●  Even when God created the angels, God did not create them with a soul, yes they can communicate with God, but the soul is where the emotions come from, so their communication still did not fulfill His desire for true fellowship (Hebrews 1:13-14).
    • ●  The rest of God’s creation can make some noise for Him and give Him glory, but again it cannot fellowship with Him (Psalm 19:1-4), (Psalm 96:11-12), (Psalm 97:7-8), (Luke 19:39-40),

Websters 1828 Dictionary Online

Introduction

There are many references in the Bible to chastisement, chastening, etc. It is a very important subject for the Christian to understand.

1. What is Chastisement?

According to Webster’s 1828 Dictionary, to chastise, is “To correct by punishing”. The Christian’s chastening has been referred to as spiritual spankings. There are times when God deems it necessary to correct His children in such a manner to get their attention. In such cases God pulls out a spiritual rod and gives His child a spiritual spanking.

These punishments may come in different forms for different occasions for different people. That is to say God does not always chasten the same way.

God told David that if Solomon were to “commit iniquity” then He would “chasten him with the rod of men” (II Sam. 7:14).

Job 33:19 refers to another type of chastisement saying, “He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:”

In still another case, God told Jeremiah to inform Israel of the following “All thy lovers have forgotten thee; they seek thee not; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased.” Jeremiah 30:14
By definition, chastisement includes “pain inflicted for punishment and correction” (Webster’s 1828). Each of these examples shows an illustration of this definition.

2. Why Does God Chasten?

#066 Is Church Really Necessary?

Posted in That's In The Bible - Podcast on April 14, 2018 by thatsinthebible

Church: What is it for, and what should we do in it?

Introduction: Church should be a place that you look forward to going to everytime the doors are open. For some Christians they look it as a chore to come to church, and even wish they didn’t have to go to church at all. But for those that love the Lord they understand that church is the best place to be. It’s a place where you can:

    • –  Come out from the world and come to a place that worships Jesus Christ our Saviour freely. Most places outside of these church walls such as at school, at work, and other people’s houses are off limits nowadays from being able to talk about the Lord let alone worship Him. A place you don’t have to worry about what you are going to see or what you are going to hear.

A place that we can assemble together and exhort, encourage, and lift eachother up to keep living for the Lord! (Hebrews 10:25), (Eccl. 4:9-12) The world, the devil, and our flesh are battling against us every second of everyday, 24/7 and 7 days a week, 365 days a year for the rest of our lives we have a spiritual battle that we are fighting and we need a place to come together and encourage each other to stay in the battle!

  • –  It’s a spiritual hospital: Just as a hospital is a place of healing for your body, the church is a place of healing spiritually for us (Luke 4:16-20).1) Church is a Necessity in every Christian’s Life According to God: There are many saved Men, Women, and children that believe they don’t need church. They think that they can worship God on their own without a church. Now you should worship God every single day and every opportunity you can whether you are in church or not, but you cannot be right with God if you are not attending a Bible believing church.
    • –  Jesus Christ Established the Church and set it up: Are you going to seriously meet God one day and tell Him that you didn’t need church? You’re crazy! (Matthew 16:18) Jesus Christ is the builder of the church, are you really going to not be part of something Jesus Christ desires to build?, (Matthew 18:17) You neglect hearing the church and God will neglect you!,
    • –  (Ephesians 1:13), (Acts 2:47) God saves most people in church at a church service through preaching,
    • –  (Acts 11:26) This is the first time the word “Christians” comes up in your Bible and it’s associated with those born again believers that faithfully attended the local church there in the city of Antioch.
    • –  Without a Pastor you cannot be perfected for God: (Ephesians 4:11-16)
    • –  The Bible is only Addressed to those who are attending a good local church: If you are not attending a Bible believing church then most of this Bible is not addressed to you personally from God! (Colossians 4:16), (1st Corinthians 1:2), (2nd Corinthians 1:1), (2nd Corinthians 8:1), (2nd Corinthians 8:23), (Galatians 1:2), (1st Thessalonians 1:1), (2nd Thessalonians 1:1), (Philemon 1:2)
    • 2) You should love your Church and Desire to come! Do You? Or do you dread it? God doesn’t want you to go to Church just because He expects you to (Psalm 27:4) David wanted to be in the house of God every single day of his life! And today most Christians complain if they have to come just 2 days a week!
