Gal5:16-25 Show these vrs to show the contrast between works of the flesh and the Fruit of the Spirit

Ephesians 5:7-11 Be not ye therefore partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

The works of the Flesh (17) are a natural outcome of the Adamic nature

The Fruit of the Spirit is the work of the Holy Spirit in the Believer

The Fruit of the Spirit is singular not plural      It is not produced in us by our own effort    And or will power

* It is the outcome of a yielded life

If there is fruit demonstrated in a Christian life There is evidence of a death to self

Galatians 5:24-25 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

John 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

* We need to have a funeral tonight        And die to self   to the world

Let the Spirit of God do a work in us that here to for we have prevented

We need to die    And re-die     And re-die    Victory   new sin arises

Gal 5:22-23

LOVE A burden and compassion for others that goes beyond emotion

JOY A contentment regardless the circumstances

PEACE A rest of spirit    Satisfaction

LONGSUFFERING Patients       Putting up with aggravations

GENTLENESS Kindness   Graciousness

GOODNESS Benevolence    A virtue of wholesomeness honesty fairness

FAITH Trust    Reliance     Belief       (Not faithfulness)

MEEKNESS Humility     Preferring   another    Unassuming

TEMPERANCE Self-Control     Discipline

It was previously stated that this fruit of the Spirit is produced by the Holy Spirit himself

The Evidence of the Fruit of the Spirit in a Christian’s life should be their greatest desire       Everything else will be in it’s proper priority

This is contrary to contemporary Christianity

Which has taken on the philosophy of the world, to get all you can get promote self     Show yourself to be in expendable to God and to the church Show how spiritual you are      See how many gift I have

With that being said:   we will move on to the Gifts

Gifts were given to the church so it could function.

Each member is given an opportunity to contribute to the function of the Body of Christ (the church)

The Church in Corinth put an inordinate value on some gifts and minimized others to elevate themselves in the sight of the brethren

Prefer the Fruit

The more of the Fruit of the Spirit is manifest in you the better you will be able to handle the ego of the Gifts

Don’t get me wrong Gifts are not bad.

It is the Philosophy and mind set of Christians which has placed to much emphasis on the Gifts    They become the focus the aim and desire

21 Gifts listed     Some are repeated

1 Corinthians 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

1 Corinthians 12:8-10 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

Wisdom   knowledge    Faith     Healing   miracles     Prophecy    Discerning of spirits       tongues      Interpretation of tongues

1 Corinthians 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

Apostles     Prophets       Evangelists     Teachers    Miracles     Healings

Helps     Governments    Tongues

Ephesians 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

Apostles     Prophets    Evangelists     Pastors    Teachers

Romans 12:6-8 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

Prophecy     Ministry    Teaching    Exhorter    Giver     Ruler    Mercy

Matthew 12:38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.

Matthew 12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

Matthew 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

John 2:18 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?

John 6:30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?

1 Corinthians 1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

Acts 7:36 He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.

2 Corinthians 12:12 Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.

Romans 15:19 Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

2 Thessalonians 2:9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.

Hebrews 2:4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

Mark 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

1 Corinthians 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

Two Resurrections?

1) The Fact of the Resurrection: The Jewish religious sect, called the Sadducees did not believe in a literal resurrection.  [Matthew 22:23] “The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection…” (That’s why they were “Sad, u-see?).  But the resurrection is a Bible doctrine that is mentioned throughout the scriptures from Genesis through Revelation.

A. Old Testament Proof of the Resurrection:

1. Job believed in Christ’s resurrection and his own [Job 19:25-27] “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another: though my reins be consumed within me.”

2. David prophesied of Christ’s resurrection [Psalm 16:9-10], [Acts 2:23-32].

3. The prophets looked for a resurrection: [Isaiah 26:19] “Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise.  Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.”

Also [Daniel 12:2], [Hosea 13:14]

4. Abraham believed God would raise Isaac from the dead: [Genesis 22:1-5], [Hebrews 11:17-19].

5. Several accounts of people being raised from the dead: [1st Kings 17:17-24], [2nd Kings 4:32-35], [2nd Kings 13:21].

B. New Testament Proof of the Resurrection:

1. The Lord Jesus Christ taught a resurrection: [John 5:21,28-29], [John 11:23-26].

2. The Apostle Paul spoke of the resurrection in great detail: [1st Corinthians chapter 15].

3. The Apostle John saw the two resurrections: [Revelation 20:4-6] “But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished.  This is the first resurrection.  Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.”

Also [Revelation 20:12-14].

4. Christ raised people from the dead: [John 11:43], [Luke 8:52-55], [Matt. 27:52]

5. Jesus Christ Himself was raised from the dead: [Acts 2:32], [Acts 4:10], [Romans 1:4], [Romans 4:25], [1st Corinth. 15:48].

2) The Importance of the Resurrection: The importance of the Christians resurrection is seen in that of the Lord Jesus Christ.  The resurrection of Christ is important because:

A. His Death and Resurrection is the only way we could be redeemed from our sins! [1st Corinthians 15:17] “And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.”

B. His Death and Resurrection declares the extent of power that is available to us as Christians that we will rise also!

-[Romans 1:4] “And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.”

-[Philippians 3:10] “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection…”

-[1st Corinthians 15:57] “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

-[1st Corinthians 15:22] “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.”

3) The Nature of the Resurrections:

A. Resurrected with a literal body: [1st Corinthians 15:37-44]

B. It is Universal: The resurrections apply to all men, believers and non believers, all shall be raised. [John 5:28-29], [Acts 24:15].

C. The Resurrection is in two parts: The resurrection is in two distinct stages, these two stages are not simultaneous but are separated by one thousand years of time.  One is before the millennial kingdom of Christ and the other is after [Revelation 20:5,11-12].

1. The First Resurrection: The resurrection of the Just: [Luke 14:14], [Acts 24:15], also known as the resurrection of life [John 5:29a].

2. The Second Resurrection: The resurrection of the Unjust: [John 5:29b], [Acts 24:15].

4) The Order of the Resurrections: [1st Corinthians 15:22-24] tells us there is a definite order with the resurrections.  The first resurrection has three parts or three distinct stages and is followed up by the second resurrection.

A. The First Resurrections: (The righteous dead) is likened to that of the laws of a Jewish harvest which has three distinct stages:

1. The First Fruits: The Lord Jesus Christ represents the first fruits of the resurrection [1st Corinthians 15:20,23b] “But every man in his own order: Christ the first fruits…”, “But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept.”

Included in this stage are the saints that arose at the time that Jesus Christ rose from the dead [Matt. 27:52-53] “And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.”

2. The Harvest: This is the rapture, it is the major stage of the first resurrection [1st Corinthians 15:23c] “…Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.”

3. The Gleanings: The Bible clearly teaches that a multitude will be saved during the tribulation, and in [Revelation 7:9-14] we see them at the throne of God.  These are found in [Rev. 20:4], they had been beheaded but were resurrected and at the thrones.

Some more verses showing the gleanings taken out of the tribulation: [Matt. 24:15-22,29-31,40-42], [Revelation 14:14-15], [Revelation 11:12].
