Luke 1:34-35

Ever since the beginning of time Satan has been trying to creep in as a wolf in sheep’s clothing to cause confusion among the believers by introducing false doctrine. Mary has been elevated to a high honor among millions. How can we know the truth about Mary? By looking at the perfect word of God (the Bible) and seeing what the Bible has to say about Mary the mother of Jesus.sudio1b

The New Testament says very little about Mary. Her first recorded words were spoken at the marriage of Cana where Jesus turned the water into wine. We find Mary only once during Jesus’ public ministry (Matthew 12:46) and then at the cross where she was committed to the care of John (John 19; 25-27). Then after Christ ascended to heaven with the disciples and then finally engaging in prayer before Pentecost, but she has no prominent place (Acts1:14). With this in consideration let us look at the myths concerning Mary.

Given title – Mother of God

This title originated in the council of Ephesus in the year 431. The purpose of this expression was not to glorify Mary but to emphasize the deity of Christ. The term today has come to have a far different meaning than that intended by the early Church. It is now used not to show Christ’s deity but used to exalt Mary to a supernatural status as Queen of Heaven.

When we say a woman is the mother of a person we mean they gave birth to that person. But Mary certainly did not give birth to God, nor Jesus Christ as the eternal Son of God. She was not the mother of our Lords divinity but only his humanity. You see Christ has exsisted from all eternity he was Mary’s creator (John 1:1-3 ).

The bible calls Mary the mother of Jesus but gives her no other title, all others are taken from outside sources other then the Bible.

By using the term “mother of God” man has come to look upon Mary as stronger, more mature, and more powerful then Christ. Rome says “He came to us through Mary  we must go to him through her.” Man magnifies the person that the Holy spirit wants to minimize and minimizes the person that the Holy Spirit wants to magnify.

To call Mary the Mother of God is impossible, illogical, and unscriptural for God can have no mother. He is eternal and without beginning while Mary was born and died within a few short years (John 8:58). “I Am”, The divine nature of Christ existed long before Mary was ever born. Think about this,  Jesus never called Mary his mother, instead he called her “woman”.

I believe Mary would weep to hear anyone pervert the truth as to call her the mother of her creator, true Jesus was God but he was also man and it was only as man that he could have a mother.

Prayer to Mary

Millions of people around the world kneel and pray to statues of Mary. There are over one hundred million practicing roman catholics, maybe a billion through out the world who pray to Mary. I was watching a TV program a couple years back and there were a group of kids that asked, “Are we supposed to pray to Mary?”, the man answered “Yes, who better to go to than the mother of Jesus. If you want your prayers answered go to the mother”. In the book “The Glories of Mary” by bishop Alphones De Liguoris it says “Mary is the peace maker between sinners and God” and “we often more quickly obtain what we ask by calling on the name of Mary than invoking that of Jesus”.

Now looking to Gods Word we never read where anyone ever prayed to Mary. Peter never prayed to Mary, Paul never prayed to Mary,  the early church never did either. In the old testament the Jews never prayed to Abraham, Jacob or David or any of the other prophets. There is not the slightest suggestion that prayer should be offered to anyone other then God.

Doctrine of Mary Worship

As millions of people bow down and worship statues of Mary and say the rosary which includes 50 hail Mary’s, they also bow in a way in which you would do before the Lord. A quote from the same book I looked at earlier says this “Mary is called the Gate of Heaven because no one can enter that blessed kingdom without passing through her”,  “ The way of salvation is open to none otherwise than through Mary”. Isn’t it strange how these statements are in direct contradiction to the Word of God (John. 10:1,7,9 , 14:6). The Bible says in Matthew 4:11 “ Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him alone shalt thou serve.” Mary worship is unscriptural. Mary cannot answer prayers, she cannot save, she was a sinner in need of a savior herself (Luke 1:46-47 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.)

I think of the brass serpent That God had Moses place on a pole and lift up so all those that looked at it would live. If you read in Second Kings 18:4 you will find that the Jews preserved the brass serpent and made an idol out of it. They looked at this as an instrumental cause of salvation although it was never meant to be worshipped. Hezekiah broke it in pieces and named it Nehushtan= a piece of brass. This is what God thinks of all the idols around the world that take glory and honor that He deserves. This is what the worship of Mary does. No wonder why the bible does not tell us any more of the life of Mary. If man knew where she died you could be sure there would be some men, yay even a religion, that would dig up her bones and pray to them.

This is why Bible believers have “failed to give attention to Mary”. Man and religion today have made her greater than God. I will not apologize for giving glory to God rather then Mary. If there someone that ought to be magnified today than it is the Lamb.

Mary’s Lamb

Matthew 1:20-21 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

One Response to “#005 What Is Mary’s Place In The Bible?”

  1. Mary, like other saints, are part of the Catholic faith as a tool of prayer to Jesus. We Catholics ask the saints to intercede for us and pray on our behalf. We do not worship them or elevate them to God status. Mary is seen as the Mother of all mothers because SHE was chosen by GOD to bring forth our savior in human form. Of course Mary should be given her credit. But, I do see your point with Holy Mary mother of God- she is the earthly mother of the earthly son Jesus. She was chosen though, imagine serving our Lord like that!

    Matthew 1:18
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
